Axios revealed on Friday that cryptocurrency exchange FTX surreptitiously sponsored media business the Block for over a year by sending money to the Block's CEO.
Employees at The Block were previously unaware of the payments, according to the article.
FTX did not immediately react to a request for comment from Reuters, while FTX's former Chief Executive Sam Bankman-Fried did not return phone calls or text messages requesting comment.
Reuters previously reported that regulators throughout the world, notably in the Bahamas, where FTX is located, and the United States, are looking into the involvement of FTX's senior executives in the firm's catastrophic collapse.
The cryptocurrency exchange went bankrupt last month, following a liquidity issue that resulted in the loss of at least $1 billion in user assets.
